Abstract

Suicide is a major public health issue, particularly among young adults, and is associated with factors such as isolation, loneliness, chronic stress, depression, and anxiety. This study aimed to examine how social support can contribute to suicide prevention in this population. Social support is a crucial protective factor, reducing suicide risk by providing emotional, instrumental, and informational support. This systematic review, based on studies from the last five years indexed in PubMed, found that effective support networks have a significant protective impact, especially in providing emotional support and reducing hopelessness. The quality of support is essential for its effectiveness, and future studies should explore community interventions to strengthen support networks in vulnerable populations.
