Abstract

This study aims to analyze how psychotherapy can positively influence the recovery of post-surgical patients, contributing to the reduction of anxiety and promoting a more efficient rehabilitation. The research is justified by the observation that emotional factors can affect clinical outcomes, indicating the relevance of psychological interventions in hospital settings. The theoretical perspective is based on the biopsychosocial model, which integrates biological, psychological, and social dimensions in understanding the recovery process. Methodologically, a narrative review of the literature was adopted, gathering references from indexed databases and official documents, including studies published in the last ten years on psychotherapy and postoperative care. The main findings suggest that strategies such as psychoeducation and anxiety management interventions improve treatment adherence and reduce complications, as well as lessen the need for analgesics during recovery. It is concluded that psychotherapy plays an important role in improving emotional well-being, enhancing post-surgical outcomes, and minimizing the potential risks associated with stress. Therefore, the incorporation of psychological actions into patient care plans is recommended, expanding the perspective traditionally focused solely on physiological aspects.
