READING: A LOOK AT ITS HISTORY

When we talk about reading we have a challenging historical context, since this skill is not for everyone and not everyone is able to develop it. This work briefly portrays the history of how reading emerged in our society. Aiming to reflect on its emergence and impacts within society. The aim is to awaken to its importance as a social good and that it is accessible to all people. As a methodology, it is a bibliographical research of a basic nature. Among the aspects observed during the study process, reading is seen as a tool of power, and therefore, teaching and access must be increasingly provided. Reading as a social practice needs to leave the school bench and effectively become part of everyone's daily life. For this research, authors were used, such as Horellou-Lafarge (2010) from the Sociology of reading, Freire (1989) with the act of reading, are some of our theorists for our reflection.
