ANIMAL DISEASE OUTBREAKS AND CASES IN GOIÁS: TEMPORAL AND SPECIES-BASED ANALYSIS (1993–2025)

The occurrence of animal diseases represents a significant challenge for animal health surveillance and public health, particularly in regions with strong livestock production. This study analyzed outbreaks and cases of animal diseases in the state of Goiás, Brazil, from 1993 to 2025, using data from the National Animal Health Information System. Secondary data were obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock database, considering disease type, affected species, year of occurrence, and number of outbreaks and cases. A total of 4,179 outbreaks and 10,579 cases were recorded, distributed across 10 diseases and 10 animal species. Equine infectious anemia was the most prevalent disease, accounting for 59.7% of outbreaks and 48.5% of cases, followed by rabies, brucellosis, and bovine tuberculosis. Equids (63.7%) and cattle (35.5%) were the most affected species. An increase in records was observed from the 2000s onward, with peaks in specific years. The findings highlight the predominance of endemic diseases and reinforce the importance of information systems in supporting surveillance and control strategies, despite limitations associated with secondary data use.
