ONE HEALTH AS AN INTEGRATING AXIS FOR MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH BETWEEN VETERINARY MEDICINE AND AGRONOMY

Abstract

The increasing complexity of contemporary agricultural systems has highlighted the need for scientific approaches capable of integrating different fields of knowledge to understand sanitary and environmental challenges. In this context, the One Health approach has emerged as an important framework by recognizing the interdependence between human, animal, plant, and environmental health. This study aimed to analyze the role of One Health as an integrative axis for multidisciplinary research between Veterinary Medicine and Agronomy. A narrative literature review was conducted based on publications retrieved from national and international scientific databases, including articles, books, and technical documents related to the topic. The analysis of the selected literature allowed the discussion of the evolution of the One Health concept, emphasizing its expansion beyond the traditional interface between human and animal health to include ecological and agricultural dimensions within production systems. Strategic research areas were identified that highlight the potential integration between Veterinary Medicine and Agronomy, including the epidemiology of diseases in agroecosystems, food safety, sustainable agricultural production, antimicrobial resistance, and the application of technologies for sanitary surveillance. At the same time, challenges remain related to disciplinary fragmentation, methodological differences between fields, and institutional limitations that may hinder the development of interdisciplinary research. The findings indicate that strengthening the One Health approach depends on expanding scientific collaboration across disciplines, with the integration between Veterinary Medicine and Agronomy playing a key role in advancing research capable of supporting sustainable production systems and addressing global health challenges.
