NETWORK DOCUMENTATION: IMPACT ON EFFICIENCY AND SECURITY

Abstract

This study addresses the relevance of network documentation for the efficient management of IT infrastructures, using NetBox as an analytical tool in a comparative case study between a telecommunications company and a higher education institution. The research aims to assess the impacts of using a network documentation platform in comparison with environments that don’t use it, considering different levels of complexity. This tool aims to examine its contributions to organizational effectiveness, security, and agile corporate problem-solving. The methodology included the application of questionnaires targeted at IT professionals in both environments, as well as the qualitative analysis of the data obtained. The main results indicate that the use of NetBox in the internet service provider leads to significant benefits, such as greater operational efficiency and enhanced support in decision-making. In contrast, the absence of the tool in the academic institution revealed limitations in network management and security. The findings conclude that the adoption of network documentation platforms is essential for organizations seeking greater efficiency and security, especially in high-complexity environments.
