Abstract

Sexuality is an essential part of improving women's quality of life. However, it is still surrounded by myths and prejudices that hinder women's self-discovery regarding their bodies and well-being. These issues reflect a conservative discourse laden with stereotypes that devalue women and delay their progress in achieving new rights. The main objective of this work is to understand, from a historical perspective of women's repression and violence and their social role, how sexuality is practiced and experienced today, promoting greater gender literacy and pedagogy on the subject. This study involves a bibliographic review of both physical and digital articles and books. The analysis reveals that through the struggles for women's emancipation, women today have greater independence over their bodies and desires. However, it remains a "censored" topic, sustained by notions rooted in male supremacy originating from historical repressive discourses. Among these, the scheme of male power is the primary generator of perspectives that silence women's sexual freedom and hinder the breaking of traditional chains, preventing the promotion of safe and equal spaces.
